Baska Island Krk

Baska is situated on the south-west of the island Krk. Here is most famous sandy beach (1800 m.) on the island; one of the largest on the Adriatic.  Since 1999, the European Blue Flag has flown on Baška's Big Beach and has become a trademark of Baška, as proof of the high quality of beach standards.The Blue Flag  is awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education in Europe, and symbolises a well-preserved, safe and pleasant surrounding, clean sea and coast, and a beach that is well  maintained, with a well developed system for  management of the area. Baska has over 2500 hours of sun in a year. Baska was the largest town on the island until 1910. Prehistoric earthworks around Baska and archaeological remains bear witness to settlements here in early times. City is the oldest bathing area on the island of Krk. First tourists arrive in 1908. In Jurandvor is church of St. Lucy; inside the church was the oldest dated written example of Croatian language-Bascanska ploca (Baska tablet).

The BaškaTablet is a national monument, significant for the Croatian nation. It is a glagolitic inscription, a document consisting of 13 lines carved in stone. The text documents a donation of the Croatian king Zvonimir (1075-1089) to the church of St.Lucy in Jurandvor, where the Baška Tablet was found inserted in the church floor.

The municipality of Baška has around 1500 inhabitants.The municipality has a surface area of 62 km2. Villages: BASKA, BATOMALJ, JURANDVOR, DRAGA BASCANSKA

From Baska is easy to reach island Rab with ferry line Beska – Lopar. Beside great beach Baska can offer plenty of good restaurants and clubs in city center.
